ELMONT, NY — After losing defenseman Noah Dobson for the foreseeable future back on Monday, the New York Islanders now have another two players to worry about.
In their 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, the team lost defenseman Ryan Pulock on the opening shift and Marcus Hogberg after regulation due to lower-body injuries.

Pulock left the game at the 15-second mark of the first period after being slew-footed by Hurricanes forward Jackson Blake, the son of former Islander Jason Blake.
He went off holding his left shoulder and was ruled out following the conclusion of the first period:
If Pulock is going to be out for a bit, the Islanders are likely to recall right-shot defenseman Grant Hutton from Bridgeport. The 29-year-old has played in 13 games for New York this season with two assists while averaging 13:28 minutes per game.
Dennis Cholowski, who served as the club’s seventh defenseman on Saturday with Tony DeAngelo making his debut, could get back in the lineup as head coach Patrick Roy has liked his game.

While the Pulock injury, if long-term, would be disastrous, the injury to Hogberg is crushing, too.
Hogberg, who has been brilliant, posting a 1.45 GAA with a .947 SV% through seven appearances, stopped 24 of 26 through regulation in Saturday’s win. But, in the latter half of the third period, there was a sequence where Hogberg lost his stick and had a rather difficult time picking it up.
It looked like he had injured his right hand, and as the game ended, the injury “got worse and worse,” according to Roy. Hogberg tried his best but could not continue, and Ilya Sorokin came in for overtime, where he made one save:
With backup netminder Semyon Varlamov on the shelf since Nov. 29, the Islanders would have to recall one of Jakub Skarek or Henrik Tikkanen from Bridgeport, two goalies with zero NHL experience.
Skarek is 5-11-1 with a 3.22 GAA and an .895 SV% while Tikkanen is 3-9-0, with a 4.96 GAA and an .845 SV%.
The likely option is Skarek.
The Islanders have a few days to prepare for their seven-game homestand finale on Tuesday night when they will face the new-look Colorado Avalanche.
The team is off on Sunday following a back-to-back sweep, so expect an update as soon as Monday morning.
