Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was named to EA Sports NHL 25 Team of the Year.
In 2024, the 31-year-old led all goaltenders in regular-season wins (44), shutouts (9; nearly double the next closest goaltenders) and save percentage (.926; min. 35 GP) a year that saw him capture his second Vezina Trophy and first William M. Jennings Trophy. His end to the 2023-24 season was no different than his beginning of the 2024-25 season and has him on pace to win back-to-back Vezina trophies.
Joining Hellebuyck on the NHL 25 Team of the Year were Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid, Colorado Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon, Tampa Bay Lightning’s Nikita Kucherov, Vancouver Canucks’ Quinn Hughes and Avalanche’s Cale Makar.
Hellebuyck has had seasons or periods where he was the best goaltender in the NHL, but due to the play of other netminders such as Andrei Vasilevskiy and Igor Shesterkin, there was never a clear cut best goaltender in the NHL but his dominance over the last few seasons has him as the unanimous No.1 goaltender in the NHL.
Hellebuyck is currently in Montreal to play for Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off, and while with the team, he was gifted a pair of custom skates from EA Sports.
The Commerce, MI native has high hopes to not only win personal awards but bring home a Stanley Cup with the Jets. If he and the team hope to do so, they’ll need him to continue at his absurd level.
