The Winnipeg Jets will play the first of two road games tonight as they play in Utah for the first time.
The Jets and Utah HC have met just one time this season, with the Jets coming out on top 3-0. Nino Niederreiter scored twice that night, improving the Jets’ record to 11-1-0.
Utah was victorious their last time out, beating the St. Louis Blues 4-2. Despite the win, Utah is 3-6-1 in their last 10 games and will be without Mikhail Sergachev for the second consecutive game as he deals with an upper-body injury.
The Jets were on the losing end of their most recent game, suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Calgary Flames. They fired 39 shots at Dustin Wolf but were not able to solve him.
“Yeah, they did a good job of protecting the middle,” said Kyle Connor when asked about their shot quality. “You see Adam’s (Lowry) goal, get a guy net-front, get a high tip. Third period we made it a focal point to try to get some more guys to the net. That being said, they weren’t giving us the Grade As, but they were really packing it in and that’s why you see the shot volume that way. We were taking a lot from the outside. When that’s the case, you’ve got to find ways to get inside positioning, find those rebounds and that’s definitely something we can work on on the offensive side of the game. When that slot’s not there and the cycle game, we’re not finding those plays, we’ve got to find ways to generate more.”
Utah has been about league average defensively but has made defence a focal point of their game. Offensively, Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley are their two most dangerous threats with Dylan Guenther out with an injury.
The Jets comfortably hold the Central division lead, maintaining a six-point lead over the Dallas Stars. The Minnesota Wilds fall from grace post Kirill Kaprizov injury has allowed the Jets to create some separation.
Puck drop is at 8:30 P.M. CST at the Delta Center.
