The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in overtime without their captain Adam Lowry.

HC Scott Arniel criticized himself and his players for their lacklustre effort against Utah HC on Monday. The Jets responded well against an excellent Avalanche team. Connor Hellebuyck turned away 25 of the 27 shots he faced, and MacKenzie Blackwood allowed three goals on 25 Jets shots.
The opening frame ended 0-0 with the Avalanche holding the slight shot advantage, 9-8.
The Avalanche opened the scoring in the second period courtesy of the NHL’s leading point scorer Nathan MacKinnon. He got himself lost in the Jets’ zone and used his speed to open up a shooting opportunity. His initial shot beat Hellebuyck but not the post. He was first to rebound and fired it into the back of the net.
The Jets answered back thanks to Morgan Barron. He drove the back post and finished off a sweet backhand feed from David Gustafsson.
Gabriel Vilardi gave the Jets the lead after he redirected a Josh Morrisey shot. The newly formed Ehlers-Namestnikov-Vilardi line had the Avalanche pinned in their own zone before scoring the go-ahead goal.
The second period saw some offensive action but the Avalanche were still able to outshoot the Jets 10-9.
Cale Makar tied the game at 2-2 with his 16th of the season. The Avalanche’s top line were responsible for both goals.
Regulation couldn’t solve anything and the two teams headed to overtime tied 2-2. The Jets killed off a late Avalanche power play to get the game to overtime. In overtime, Neal Pionk ripped a shot past Blackwood to pick up the two points for the Jets.
