A long tenure leads to a Quick goodbye.
Now-former Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick was the netminder for two Stanley Cup-winning squads, spending the entirety of his 16-year NHL career in Los Angeles, finishing top-three in Vezina Trophy voting three times in that span.
Late Tuesday night, the Kings ended the Quick era, shipping the veteran goalie off to the Blue Jackets, per reports.
It’s a somewhat surprising move for the Kings, who pace the Western Conference with 76 points alongside the Golden Knights. Quick made it known that the 2022-23 season wasn’t going to be his last, and he also reportedly made it known that he was none too pleased with the trade.
To say Jonathan Quick is unhappy with the trade, I’m told, is “an understatement.”
The entire #LAKings team was a bit down after the game, a win, and you could understandably see it in Anze Kopitar’s face after a 4-goal night.
Tough deal, Kings trading a franchise legend.

It’s anything but a Hollywood ending for Quick and the Kings. Here’s how the trade breaks down.
Jonathan Quick trade details

- Columbus Blue Jackets receive: G Jonathan Quick, first-round pick, third-round pick
- Los Angeles Kings receive: D Vladislav Gavrikov, G Joonas Korpisalo
TSN’s Darren Dreger also reports that the first-round pick heading to Columbus has protections should LA miss out on the playoffs.
There’s also a condition on the 1st from LA, in the unlikely event the Kings miss the playoffs. https://t.co/H0dlwe9wSU

The 37-year-old Quick is in the midst of a down year, with his 3.50 GAA the worst of mark of his career. His .876 save percentage is also the worst of his career. Quick split time with journeyman Pheonix Copley throughout the season, starting 27 games and appearing in 31.
The Kings bolster their defense with Gavrikov, one of the hotter names on the market leading up to Friday’s trade deadline. Reports also indicated that Columbus was looking for first- and third-round picks for the defenseman.
