After Monday’s slate of games, all Nashville Predators players are officially done for this year’s 4 Nations Face-off. The concern now, however, is the status of winger Gustav Nyquist.
Nyquist, 35, suffered an apparent injury in the third period of Sweden’s game vs. the United States Monday night but did not return. According to the shift chart put together by Natural Stat Trick, Nyquist played one shift after the first TV timeout of the third period before departing for the rest of the night.
Nyquist scored one goal and recorded two shots on goal in 10:15 of ice time before exiting the game.
Nyquist’s fellow countryman and Predators teammate, Filip Forsberg, disappointedly did not score a point in his three appearances at the 4 Nations.
Juuse Saros, who entered the tournament as Finland’s starting goalie, allowed six goals to the United States in his only start. Saros saw additional action in relief of former Predators goalie Kevin Lankinen, stopping all 14 shots he faced from Canada Monday afternoon.
The Predators will return to practice this week, though Nyquist, Saros, and Forsberg may not participate straight away. Additionally, we’ll have to await further clarity on Nyquist’s injury situation, if there is any.
Nyquist has nine goals, 11 assists, and 20 points in 53 games for the Predators this season and, despite his struggles, is expected to be a popular trade target with the NHL trade deadline now only three weeks away.
