The Chicago Blackhawks only have Teuvo Teravainen representing them at the Four Nations Faceoff with Team Finland. The rest of the team is on vacation.
Their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, is not on vacation. They had a tough loss on Tuesday to the Milwaukee Admirals by a score of 3-1.
On Thursday, they made a handful of injury announcements. A couple of key players are involved.
One is positive. Gerry Mayhew is going to return as he has been cleared to play. He was dealing with a left hip adductor strain that kept him out of Rockford’s lineup.
The other two are negative and this is where the key players come in. Colton Dach, the team’s third-leading scorer and someone who has played in the NHL this season, is going to be out for 7-10 days with a left hip flexor strain.
Drew Commesso, one of Rockford’s two goalies who makes regular starts, is expected to be away for 7-14 days with a right ankle sprain. Commesso is one of the top goalie prospects in the system overall.
The Blackhawks take a hit when it comes to their depth with this news but it doesn’t sound like anything is overly serious to the point where they will be out long term. By the time Chicago is back from the Four Nations Faceoff break, these two should be close to returning.
Rockford’s next game is going to come at BMO Center on Friday night against the Chicago Wolves.
