Seattle, WA – The Seattle Kraken defeated the Chicago Blackhawks in the first of three meetings this season, and the only one in Seattle. Former Kraken Ryan Donato scored Chicago’s lone goal and now leads the Blackhawks with 8 points. Kraken goalie Philipp Grubauer, fully recovered from injury, was dressed but Joey Daccord started. Petr Mrazek was in net for Chicago.
Nothing eventful happened in the first period on either sides. Shots on goal were low for each, ending with 3 for Chicago and 10 for Seattle. The Kraken struck first in the second period with a snap shot goal from Matty Beniers, assisted by Jared McCann and Oliver Bjorkstrand.
Chicago surged to life in the third period with an unassisted goal from Ryan Donato, but a pair of goals from the Kraken—highlighted by Jaden Schwartz’s milestone 200th NHL goal and an empty-netter from Brandon Tanev—ultimately sealed the victory for Seattle. Schwartz also earned his third game-winning goal of the season which leads all Kraken skaters.
Joey Daccord is now 3-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA and .947 SV% in his three career appearances against the Blackhawks.
Jordan Eberle suffered an upper-body injury in the second period, and speaking postgame, head coach Dan Bylsma said he is still being evaluated.
