He’s baaaack.
A day after getting traded to the Rangers by the Vancouver Canucks, J.T. Miller made his presence felt early on, scoring in the first period against the Boston Bruins in the first game back of his second stint with the Blueshirts.
The score tied the game at 1 and came 34 seconds after the Bruins took the lead. It was Miller’s 10th goal of the season.
After a loose puck entered Boston’s end zone, defenseman Brandon Carlo tried clearing the puck away, but winger Artemi Panarin was able to intervene with his stick which trickled the puck right to Miller who was waiting perfectly in front of the goal and one-timed it past Jeremy Swayman in net.
Panarin was awarded the assist.
The game stayed tied in the period until 2:51 remaining after David Pastrnak scored to put the Bruins up 2-1 heading into the second period.
At the end of the period, ESPN’s Emily Kaplan spoke with Miller about the goal and the hectic hours leading up to it.
“I’m definitely excited. It’s been a long two days, but it’s really special putting this jersey back on and obviously it felt good to get one,” Miller said. “I’m kind of numb right now so I’m just gonna try and enjoy it.”
