The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned forward Valtteri Puustinen to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced Thursday.
Puustinen was placed on waivers on Tuesday but went unclaimed.
A 2019 seventh round pick of the Penguins, Puustinen appeared in 10 games with Pittsburgh this season, collecting a goal and an assist.
Splitting time between the NHL and AHL in 2023-24, Puustinen collected 20 points in 52 games with Pittsburgh and 13 points in 24 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
With Puustinen now heading back to the AHL, he will be heavily relied upon with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. A skilled player who can play up and down the lineup, Puustinen will likely be the first recall if the Penguins need someone to fill a roster spot.
