The 2024-25 regular season is coming to a close, with the Vancouver Canucks down to their final 20 games. After 62 games, the Canucks have collected 69 points and are in a race for the final Wild Card spot. While Vancouver does enter Sunday, March 9, just below the playoff bar, there is still a good chance they will qualify for the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

According to MoneyPuck.com, the Canucks have a 44.5% chance of securing a berth in this year’s postseason. Their best odds are through the second Wild Card spot at 22.3%, followed by the third seed in the Pacific Division at 11.8%. While Vancouver is listed at below 50%, they do have a higher percentage than the Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues and Utah Hockey Club, who are also in contention for the final spot.
As for Sunday’s game versus the Dallas Stars, there are so major playoff implications for the Canucks. If Vancouver wins in regulation, they would see their chances of making the playoffs bumped up to 52.6%. As for a regulation loss, that would drop their odds to 36.6%, while an overtime loss would have the Canucks at 43.7%.
While the Stars are one of the top teams in the Western Conference, Vancouver will have a great opportunity to pick up a win as Dallas played Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers. If the Canucks have eyes on the postseason, they need to start stringing winning streaks together, especially at home. Vancouver also needs to demonstrate that it can defeat teams above them in the standings, as they will most likely be the lower seed if they make the postseason.
The Canucks continue their four-game homestand on Sunday when they face the new-look Stars. This will be the second of three meetings this season with Dallas and the only one that will take place in Vancouver. Puck drop on Sunday is scheduled for 6:00 pm PT from Rogers Arena.
