DAYTONA BEACH — NASCAR opportunities keep coming for Connor Zilisch.
The 18-year-old racer, who will compete in the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway this weekend, announced his Cup Series debut Thursday.
On March 2, he will run the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. It will happen with Trackhouse Racing in the No. 87 Red Bull Chevrolet.
“It’s just a different level in the Cup Series,” Zilisch said during a Rolex 24 news conference Thursday. “Obviously, I want to get my feet wet in it as early as possible and get an understanding of what my future may look like. I’m really excited for that. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
He added no talks about other Cup Series races have occurred yet.
Last year became a banner season for Zilisch.
He dominated ARCA with five victories, debuted in the Truck Series and jumped to the Xfinity Series with a win in his first race.
He will drive for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports full-time in the Xfinity Series this season.
“Things have progressed really fast,” Zilisch said. “The last 18 months have been quite a whirlwind, but it’s been a lot of fun. I’ve just been trying to take a step back and enjoy it all.”
During the Rolex 24, Zilisch will pilot Trackhouse’s No. 91 GTD Pro machine, joining Ben Keating, Scott McLaughlin and Shane van Gisbergen.
