Alex Bowman is officially eliminated from the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.
Bowman was disqualified from Sunday’s Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a cutoff race in the Round of 12 in the playoffs, after failing post-race inspection for his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet not meeting the minimum weight requirements.
Hendrick Motorsports announced Monday that it will not appeal NASCAR’s disqualification.
“NASCAR allows a clear margin to account for the difference in pre- and post-race weight,” Hendrick Motorsports wrote in a statement. “After a thorough review by our team and the sanctioning body, we simply did not give ourselves enough margin to meet the post-race requirement. Although unintentional, the infraction was avoidable.”
Bowman finished 18th on the track in Sunday’s race, but the disqualification put the No. 48 car in 38th place. Joey Logano moved into the final playoff spot in the Round of 8 after Sunday’s race by virtue of Bowman’s disqualification.
