Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson is back in a part-time driver role with Legacy Motor Club again in 2025, with confirmed races including the Daytona 500 in February.
Johnson announced the news on social media on Thursday, confirming that the Daytona 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 will be on his driving schedule.
Johnson and the No. 84 Toyota will have to qualify for the field on qualifying time or via the duel races next month as an open, non-charter entry.
The 49-year-old driver ran nine Cup races in the No. 84 LMC Toyota last season with a best finish of 26th in the season finale at Phoenix. Johnson did qualify into the 2024 Daytona 500 field via the duels and finished 28th.
Johnson joins a growing list of open entries for the Daytona 500 field, including former Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. with TRICON Garage, Justin Allgaier with JR Motorsports, Anthony Alfredo with Beard Motorsports and Helio Castroneves with Trackhouse. Castroneves is the only open entry with a guaranteed spot in the 40-car 500 field via the newly-created open exemption provisional.
