Joey Logano was livid and called Austin Dillon “a piece of crap” after Dillion wrecked Logano through Turns 3 and 4 to win the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway Sunday night in Virginia. It snapped a 68-race winless streak for Dillon.
Logano led Dillon by a full car length with one lap to go in overtime.
Members of Dillon’s Richard Childress Racing Team could be heard yelling “Wreck him, wreck him” on the radio as Dillon closed in on Logano and before he spun him out and into the wall. Dillon also hooked Denny Hamlin as Hamlin tried to take the lead just before the finish line.
Dillon, whose most recent win was in 2022 at Daytona, thanked God while holding his infant daughter after the race, which also did not sit well with Logano.
“That’s chicken (expletive), there’s no doubt about it,” Logano said. “He was four car lengths back, not even close. Then he wrecks (Hamlin) to go along with it. Then he’s going to go up there and thank God and praise everything with his baby. It’s a bunch of BS. What a piece of crap.”
The crash cost Logano the chance to get his second win of the season after claiming the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway in June. He also won the All-Star non-points race in May.
Dillon qualified for the NASCAR playoffs with the win. He did not deny making a questionable move to win.

When asked in an NBC interview if it was a fair move, Dillon said: “I don’t know, man. It’s been two years and this is the first car I’ve had with a shot to win.”
Dillon had lost the lead to Logano on a restart before spinning him out and hooking Hamlin. Dillon had the lead with two laps left when Ricky Stenhouse Jr. caused a wreck.
“I felt like with two to go, we were the fastest car and obviously had to have a straightaway,” Dillon said. “I hate to do that, but sometimes you just got to have it. I’ve got to thank the good Lord above. It’s been tough over the last two years, man. I care about (Richard Childress Racing), these fans, my wife, and this is my first baby girl. It means a lot. I hate it, but I had to do it.”
When asked if he would retaliate in the next race, Logano said: “We’ll see.”
