Austin Dillon got a thrilling overtime victory in the Cook Out 400 NASCAR race in Richmond, Virginia on Sunday, but another word also describes his victory: Controversial.
And two drivers who were directly impacted by Dillon’s late-race antics are livid with the race winner and NASCAR over the situation.
Dillon hit Joey Logano’s car on the fourth turn on the final lap in Sunday’s race when Logano looked to be in position to win the race and then he clipped Denny Hamlin on his way to winning the race, his first win in nearly two years.
The questionable moves appear to have paid off. Dillon clinched a playoff berth with the victory.

Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin blast Austin Dillon
Logano and Hamlin sounded off on Dillon’s antics after the race.
“He has no intentions to race,” Logano told Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass. “I beat him fair and square in the restart and he pulls a chicken (expletive) move. He’s a piece of crap. The kid, he sucks. He sucked his whole career and now he’s going to be in the playoffs and good for him, I guess.”
Hamlin told Pockrass: “We have rules to prevent ridiculous acts, but it’s been a long time since those rules have been enforced. We’re never ever going to be taken seriously as a sport because we have no real officiating.”
NASCAR to review end of Cook Out 400 Race
After the race, NASCAR Senior VP of Competition Elton Sawyer said NASCAR would review the incidents.
“You talk about crossing a line and I would say that looking at that we were right up against a line. We’re going to go back, we’re going to look at all the video. We’re going to listen to the audio. We’re going to gather all the information. We want to make the right decision.”
