Oct. 15—Former NASCAR champion Joey Logano will be competing for another title as a result of a disqualification following the Roval race at Charlotte.
Alex Bowman appeared to make the field of eight vying for the championship after last weekend’s race, but his car failed post-race inspection.
Bowman’s Chevrolet was found to be below the minimum weight, and the disqualification knocked him out of the title chase.
Hendrick Motorsports decided not to appeal the disqualification.
His misfortune elevated Logano into the field of eight, joining Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick, William Bryon, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott.
Larson won at Charlotte last weekend and has to be considered an early favorite to advance to the championship race at Phoenix.
The NASCAR schedule concludes with traditional tracks at Las Vegas, Homestead and Martinsville before the final race in Arizona.

Deegan has signed to compete in the IndyCar NXT series with HMD Motorsports.

It will be interesting to see how she performs for the first time in an open-wheel car at the races on street and road circuits and, of course, several ovals.
—This past weekend was the running of the Winchester 400 for the ASA Stars National Tour.
Cole Butcher emerged as the winner of one of the crown jewels of short-track racing.
What was disappointing was there were only 21 super late model teams at a race which traditionally attracted more than 30 competitors.
Particularly disappointing was the fact the race paid $20,000 to the winner with an additional $14,000 in bonus money.
Although I was unable to attend the event this weekend, there were plenty of activities surround the Winchester 400 weekend.
