The NASCAR Cup Series weekend at Watkins Glen International will move back to its traditional August spot in 2025, the racetrack announced Thursday.
Watkins Glen’s road course has hosted NASCAR’s top series each year since 1986, with the exception of the COVID-impacted 2020 event that was moved to Daytona International Speedway’s road course. This year’s race will be held in September, the first time during that stretch it will be held any month but August.
The 2025 Go Bowling at the Glen weekend is scheduled for Aug. 8 to 10 after being held the third weekend in August in 2022 and 2023, the latest dates in the race’s modern history.
Next year’s race weekend begins with a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race Aug. 8, followed by the NASCAR Xfinity Series Mission Foods 200 on Aug. 9, and culminating with the Go Bowling at the Glen on Aug. 10.
The Glen will be the third-from-last regular-season race and points race No. 24 of 36.
This year’s Go Bowling at The Glen weekend is scheduled for Sept. 13 to 15, capped by the Cup Series race at 3 p.m. Sunday. It will be televised live on USA Network. Tickets are available at theglen.com. William Byron is defending champion.
“Watkins Glen International is a challenging and prestigious road course that provides the perfect backdrop for setting up championship opportunities,” Dawn Burlew, president of Watkins Glen International, said in a press release.
“In only a couple weeks, fans will get to see playoff action here for the first time, while next year they’ll get to cheer on their favorite drivers as they once again battle it out for a berth in the playoffs. We’re so proud WGI is playing such an instrumental role in NASCAR’s championship over these two seasons.”
Watkins Glen is the second of 10 playoff races on this year’s schedule and the middle event of three in the round of 16. The champion will be crowned Nov. 10 at Phoenix Raceway, which will host next year’s final race Nov. 2.
