The NASCAR Cup Series will set the Daytona 500 starting lineup with Thursday’s Duels qualifying races at Daytona International Speedway.
Either four or five teams will miss the Daytona 500 lineup depending on the duel results. Of the open, non-chartered teams, Jimmie Johnson and Martin Truex Jr. are locked into the field as the top two qualifying times from Wednesday’s session. If either race into the field via the duels’ results, Justin Allgaier can make the field on time.
Chase Briscoe won the pole for Sunday’s 500 on Wednesday, with Austin Cindric also on the front row.
Two more reminders: Helio Castroneves is in the field regardless of Thursday’s result. If he races into the field, the field will be set at 40 spots. If he cannot race into the field, he will start 41st in the 500 lineup on Sunday. And points will be awarded for the top 10 in each duel race, similar to a singular stage point payout. No playoff point will be awarded.
Follow along with our live race updates, with Duel No. 1 green flag set for after 6 p.m. CT at Daytona.
