It was a long day for many drivers that needed a good points run during the finish of the FireKeepers Casino 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan on Monday.
Martin Truex Jr. and Bubba Wallace had separate issues that ruined a possible top-five run, while Kyle Larson lost the regular-season points lead after crashing out of the race at the end of Stage 2. Wallace is now 17th, one point out of the final playoff spot.
Meanwhile, Ty Gibbs’ third-place run gives the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota a solid points buffer (+39 points ahead of 17th) heading into Daytona.
