While last year’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville Superspeedway included plenty of passing and positional jockeying, starting position is always key.
That led to Saturday, as qualifying for Sunday’s Ally 400 was held in the heat of the day at the 1⅓-mile track. Denny Hamlin came away with the coveted No. 1 starting spot and pit box choice, clearing the field with a lap of 29.859. Josh Berry will also start on the front row with Christopher Bell set to start third, Kyle Larson fourth and Brad Keselowski fifth.
Justin Haley, driver of the No. 51 Rick Ware Racing Ford, made an illegal adjustment after going through inspection and will be relegated to the back of the field, will have to do a pass-through penalty on pit road on Sunday and also will be without his crew chief.
Chevrolet has three wins in as many Cup Series races at Nashville with Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and Ross Chastain each going to victory lane once. Larson was atop the odds board heading into Saturday.
Coverage for Sunday’s Ally 400 is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
