William Byron, a NASCAR cup series driver from Charlotte, North Carolina, won the 67th annual Daytona 500 on Sunday for the second year in a row.
Byron took the checkered flag at Daytona International Speedway after a crash broke out on the final lap, USA TODAY reports. But NASCAR kept the green flag out, and Bryon was able to vault from ninth place to the front as other cars crashed around him.
“It’s obviously really special,” Byron said climbing from his No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. “It’s an amazing race, and obviously a lot of crazy racing out there tonight and just a lot of pushing and shoving, but just really proud of our team. I can’t stress that enough. I’m just super thankful.”
Tyler Reddick finished second, and seven-time NASCAR Cups Series champion Jimmie Johnson third.

The Daytona 500 was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET on Sunday. The time was moved up one hour from the original 2:30 p.m. start due to weather concerns.
After two weather delays, which lasted for roughly three and half hours, NASCAR Cup Series drivers were ordered to report back to their cars at 5:25 p.m. The race resumed at approximately 6:22 p.m. and finished around 9:54 p.m., per Fox Sports.
Was Donald Trump at the Daytona 500?
The 2025 Daytona 500 began with a visit from President Trump who arrived in Daytona Beach, Florida, a little after 1 p.m. ET. Per USA TODAY, the 47th president took a lap around the 2.5-mile track and received loud cheers when he was shown as the national anthem neared its conclusion.
He also came down to pit road to meet race teams and notable NASCAR legends, including “The King” Richard Petty. He also spoke to Fox Sports’ Jamie Little before heading back to the presidential limo and leading the drivers onto the track for pace laps ahead of the start of Sunday’s race.
