Phil Foden had made a slow start to the 24/25 season. The England international had a busy summer for England off the back of a packed season with Manchester City. But the signs are there that Foden is getting back to his best. That was on display during City’s 5-nil win over Sparta Prague last night at the Etihad.
Foden opened the scoring last night for Manchester City in the third minute of last night’s match. But more than that the energy associated with Foden’s game was clear to see. He was gliding around the pitch and his magical touch and control was on full display. When Foden is at his best and fully fit he makes the game appear simple as he glides across the pitch. This trait of Foden’s game has appeared to be returning in recent weeks. His cameo off the bench at Molineux the same energy was apparent in Foden’s game. That is good news for Manchester City.
In an interview published on espn.co.uk Foden explained that he had been suffering from burnout at the beginning of this season. He added that he is trying to get back to his best as soon as possible. Foden explained: “Last year there were so many games. I put everything I could into it. I came back a little bit fatigued, which is normal. Rodri came back like that as well, a few players. It’s normal how many games we play – you have to burnout at some point. I’m making steps in the right direction and trying to get back to my best.”
Based on how many games Foden played last season and during the summer it was clear that he would need time to work his way into this season. But in recent weeks it is becoming apparent that he is nearing his best once again. That is fantastic news for Manchester City as they build into 24/25 season. It will be no shock to see Foden back to the stunning form he displayed last season in the coming weeks.
