No one has ever scored more goals in a single season in Premier League history than Alan Shearer. The former Newcastle and Blackburn striker shares the record – he scored 34 goals in 1994/95 – with Andy Cole, who scored the same amount in 1993/94.
There are still 15 Premier League games to go, but Shearer has already conceded his record to Erling Haaland. The former Molde, RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund striker scored the third goal in Manchester City‘s crucial 3-1 win over Arsenal in the race for the title.
The Norwegian received a killer pass from Kevin de Bruyne in the 82nd minute, controlled it with his left foot and beat Aaron Ramsdale with a right-footed shot across goal. It was his 26th goal in 23 games.
“If he beats the record, I’ll be the first to shake his hand. It’s something that’s going to happen,” he acknowledged on the Amazon Prime broadcast.
“I love his attitude. I love his hunger and desire. I loved what he said about not sleeping at night when he didn’t score because that is a goal scorer.”
Shearer, the all-time Premier League top scorer with 260 goals, bowed down to Haaland: “If you want to build the perfect striker, you’ve already got it: it’s him”.
