Real Madrid have held a long-standing interest in Bayern Munich and Canada left-back Alphonso Davies.
The 23-year-old defender will be out of contract at the end of the season and is a free-transfer target for Los Blancos, with contacts over a move already being made.
However, Real Madrid’s arch-rivals Barcelona have also entered the race for Davies and hope to take advantage of his relationship with Hansi Flick to lure him to Catalonia in the summer when his contract runs down.
Barcelona to monitor Davies closely in UCL clash
In fact, Mundo Deportivo now reports that Barcelona plan on keeping a very close eye on Alphonso Davies tonight when they take on Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
The Bavarian giants will face off against the La Liga leaders tonight at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in a highly-anticipated encounter in the Champions League.
Davies is a guaranteed starter for the Bundesliga bigwigs and will be going up against Barcelona teenage sensation Lamine Yamal on the night.
As such, the Blaugrana are going to monitor the Canadian international closely and see how he performs given their interest in signing him in the summer.
Reports have suggested that Davies only dreams of Real Madrid. But Barcelona believe that they are in with a chance to lure him away from the Merengues by capitalising on his relationship with Flick.
It will be interesting to see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming months as Real Madrid and Barcelona compete for Davies’ signing.
