Casemiro was sent off in the 34th minute of Manchester United’s home duel against Southampton.
The former Real Madrid midfielder was inconsolable after receiving a straight red card following a horror tackle on Carlos Alcaraz.
Before moving to Manchester United, Casemiro had never received a straight red card.
In fact, he was sent off just twice in LaLiga Santander after receiving two yellow cards in both the game against Barcelona in 2020/21 and the duel against Real Valladolid in 2018/19.
Casemiro received his first direct card in 2022/23 in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace for grabbing Will Hughes by the neck in the middle of a brawl earlier this season.
This is the second time he receives a straight red card. After going as many as 496 games without being shown a single direct red card, Casemiro has now seen two in eight games.
His sending off will have serious consequences, as he will miss out on Manchester United’s next four games.
It should be noted that no Manchester United player has seen two direct red cards in the same Premier League season since Nemanja Vidic in 2013/14.
