Manchester City‘s 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday moved them within three points of Premier League leaders Arsenal, who have one game in hand.
The Sky Blues fans may be concerned, however, as Erling Haaland was replaced at half-time after being treated for a knock he suffered on the back of his right thigh by the team’s medical staff.
Three days before visiting the Emirates for a key title-race duel against the Gunners, Pep Guardiola expressed his hope that Haaland will be fit for Wednesday’s clash.
“He had a big knock, he was uncomfortable,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.
“We didn’t want to take a risk and we will assess the next days how he does.”
“Hopefully he is ready [for the Arsenal game], but we will see.”
Champions League clash is 10 days away
After facing Arsenal midweek and playing away at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Manchester City will play away at RB Leipzig in 10 days’ time for the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.
“Hopefully he is not too injured because we need him,” his teammate Ilkay Gundogan said after the Aston Villa game.
It has to be noted that Haaland has scored 31 goals in 29 games across all competitions, including 25 in 21 Premier League fixtures.
