Chelsea have gone all out in recent transfer windows. Since his arrival, Todd Boehly has spared no expense to strengthen the team. In just eight months as co-owner of the London club, he has spent more than 600 million euros on reinforcements.
However, despite the financial effort, his management has aroused some criticism, especially on the sporting front. The Blues are underperforming.
Owen Hargreaves, ex-footballer, believes that the planning has not been good and that the squad is weak in attack.
“Considering they’ve spent 600 million pounds (about 675 million euros) and they don’t have a centre-forward, it’s madness,” Hargreaves was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
Champions League defeat
The words come in the wake of the English side’s defeat in the first leg of their Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund.
“That game sums it up. They need someone who can put the ball in the net,” Hargreaves continued.
Despite the result, Hargreaves believes Graham Potter‘s side still have a chance of a comeback.
“I think the tie is far from over. I think Chelsea can win the second leg, but again Dortmund are a threat, we saw that,” he said.
Chelsea have a goalscoring problem. Potter‘s side have scored just four goals in their nine games in 2023.
