Iceland goalkeeper Telma Ivarsdottir has signed for Rangers from her homeland’s league champions, Breidablik.
The 25-year-old, who has signed a two-and-a-half year contract, has 12 international caps and helped Iceland qualify for this summer’s European Championships.
Ivarsdottir also kept 12 clean sheets in 20 outings and was named goalkeeper of the season in her domestic league after the 2024 campaign as Breidablik secured the title for the first time in four years.
Rangers head coach Jo Potter told her club website: “She is a great up-and-coming keeper. We have tracked her progress over the last year or so.
“She has made some great appearances at international level for such a young keeper for an established squad.
“To play so well against USA and Germany, it says something about her as a character that can step into that position, so it is something that we have been trying to get across the line for a while and we are super happy to finally get it done.”
Ivarsdottir came through Breidablik’s youth system and had loan spells with Grindavik, Haukar, Augnablik and Hafnarfjordur before establishing herself as a first-team regular.
She says Potter and women’s football managing director Donald Gillies did not have a difficult job persuading her to move to Scotland.
“They didn’t have to say anything to convince me,” Ivarsdottir said. “They showed me the facility and the training ground and I just fell in love with everything and also fell in love with Glasgow.
“I know it is a top team. I know they are always at the top and always qualify for the Champions League.”
