Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that Joaquin Correa is deserving of his chance to start against Hellas Verona this afternoon.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, ahead of today’s Serie A clash. He also backed Kristjan Asllani, another notable name in the Inter starting eleven.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has decided to go with Joaquin Correa in the starting eleven against Hellas Verona in his team’s return to Serie A action from the international break.
This will be Correa’s first start this season. The Argentine has made a handful of substitute appearances over the campaign so far.
Correa was widely expected to leave Inter during the summer transfer window.
However, the former Lazio, Sevilla, and Sampdoria forward stuck around.
And Inzaghi has shown a willingness to give Correa opportunities and take advantage of the 30-year-old’s availability.
The Inter coach has five senior forwards at his disposal including Correa. And this evening, the coach has decided to put Correa into the starting rotation as he prepares for an intense cycle of fixtures.
Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi: “Joaquin Correa Deserves Chance” Vs Hellas Verona
Correa starts alongside Marcus Thuram in attack for Inter.
Meanwhile, Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic are in reserve on the bench.
Then, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez has pulled out of the squad for this afternoon’s match. This is reportedly due to flu-like symptoms that he has been suffering.
Inzaghi has worked with Correa at both Lazio and Inter. The coach said that “I think he deserves this chance.”
“He’s been doing well in training since July,” the coach said.
“He has a lot of competition in attack. But today he would have played no matter what because he deserves the chance, and he’ll play at his best.”
And, as far as whether he had any doubts between starting Kristjan Asllani or Piotr Zielinski in holding midfield with Hakan Calhanoglu, Inzaghi said “No, never.”
“Asllani is the player we have for that position. And we have a lot of confidence in him.”
“When Calhanoglu was out injured he was dealing with a bad knee sprain,” the Inter coach noted of Asllani. “But he returned over the break.”
“He played two great matches with his national team,” Inzaghi said. “He’s ready.”
“I have a lot of faith in him and he’ll have an excellent match.”
