Jude Bellingham promises to be one of the most talked about players this summer and the young English star, who plays for Borussia Dortmund, is the talk of half of Europe, especially Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Faced with the umpteenth question about the midfielder, Jurgen Klopp pulled out his usual sarcasm.
“We constantly talk about things we can’t have,” the German began by saying at his last press conference.
“We are not five-year-olds at Christmas.”
No whims allowed
“If I asked you for a Ferrari at Christmas, you would tell me it’s too expensive, and, anyway, you can’t drive it,” said the Reds’ coach, insinuating that the club does not have enough financial muscle to undertake a signing like Bellingham’s.
Such a deal would cost around 100 million pounds, a substantial fee even for a club like Liverpool.
Klopp has been adopting a similar attitude for some time now, pointing out that clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea can undertake transfers out of their reach.
In recent times Liverpool have been ‘limited’ to taking advantage of market opportunities that, although high priced, are more affordable than the big names in the market: Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Minamino, Diogo Jota, Konate and others.
