At the end of 2022, Jurgen Klopp became the third longest-serving manager in England’s professional leagues. Gareth Ainsworth‘s move from Wycombe, whom he had coached for 10 seasons, to QPR elevated the German to the podium of the longest-serving managers of the same team in England.
Only Harrogate Town’s Simon Weaver (13 years and 277 days) and Accrington Stanley’s John Coleman (eight years and 157 days) surpass him.
This milestone is all the more valuable given how unstable the dugouts around him are proving to be. “How do I keep sitting here in this crazy world? Last man standing,” joked Klopp.
Relationship with the dismissed
After the recent sackings of Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter, the German said it could be his turn any day. “It’s part of the business,” he said. “I respect them a lot and I like them both. They are both good people and fantastic coaches, but still things can go wrong. It’s been a weird week.”
After their defeat to Manchester City, Klopp has Liverpool eighth in the Premier League, eight points off the fourth Champions League qualifying spot, a minimum requirement for the Reds.
