Liverpool dominant but held to goalless draw by Manchester United

Manchester United came out of Anfield unscathed as they secured a 0-0 draw against Liverpool in a morale-boosting result for Erik Ten Hag’s men.

This despite Diogo Dalot’s late red card as Jurgen Klopp’s men passed up the chance to top the Premier League table.

The first half opened with Liverpool clearly in the ascendency, moving the ball sharper and quicker as United struggled to get out of their own half. Erik Ten Hag’s men would only manage two shots in the opening 45 minutes.

The second half began the same way as Liverpool dominated all aspects but lacked clear cut chances to take the lead of the game against their historic rivals and eventually Manchester United grew into the game.

They should have taken the lead in the 67th minute through Rasmus Hojlund. Quick play between the Norwegian and Scott McTominay put him one vs. one with Alisson, who made a big stop.

Mohamed Salah and Ibrahim Konate then tested Andre Onana with fierce drives and the Liverpool fans responded to the atmosphere realizing that they now had a game on their hands as the bitter hatred to their Mancunian foes was felt in all sides of the stadium.

Darwin Nunez saw a penalty appeal waved away in the 76th minute. Then came a brief VAR check in the 85th minute for a Liverpool penalty via a Luke Shaw handball that he could do nothing about before he was then booked for a late lunge on Konate.

In the 94th minute Dalot picked up two bookings in a matter of seconds for dissent to be sent off for Manchester United as he angrily complained about the decision of Michael Oliver over a throw-in, but no further action would happen as the game ended 0-0.

What’s next for Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League?

The Merseyside-based club are at home once again for a mouth-watering clash against Arsenal. The winner of the game against Mikel Arteta’s side will top the table on Christmas Day. Liverpool currently lead/trail Arsenal by 1 point.

The game will take place on Saturday, December 23.

As for Manchester United their next clash is against West Ham on December 23.
