As 2025 approaches, Viktor Gyökeres is drawing attention from several European clubs, and Sporting Lisbon will have to sell its star striker.
Loïc Tanzi of L’Équipe reports that Paris Saint-Germain are closely monitoring Gyökeres, with plans to pursue him in the summer of 2025. PSG’s sporting advisor, Luís Campos, has reportedly reached out to the striker’s representatives.
Meanwhile, The Daily Briefing notes that Manchester United are also in the mix. With coach Rúben Amorim—who previously worked with Gyökeres in Lisbon—pushing for the transfer, the Premier League club seem keen to make their move.
Adding to the intrigue, Diario AS claims Manchester United are prepared to activate Gyökeres’ €100 million release clause to bring him to Old Trafford.
Viktor Gyökeres is on his way out of Sporting Lisbon?
Top European clubs keen on the Swedish standout have been told that Sporting Lisbon have “no option” but to sell Gyökeres, according to ex-Premier League star Jose Fonte.
“Portuguese clubs have got no option but to sell for the right price,” Fonte said (h/t The Mirror). “We need to sell. Portuguese clubs have to sell one or two players every season.
“We don’t have the same TV rights as the Premier League so we don’t have the capacity to hold on to players. It would be lovely to see Portugal with a little bit more capacity to hold on to their talent, of course.
“That’s what people in the various federations are trying to do. Sporting will listen and they will probably have to sell Viktor Gyökeres because Portuguese clubs have to raise big money every year.”
Gyökeres has played 24 total matches this 2024-25 season, scoring 24 goals and recording four assists.
