Premier League clubs continued to flex their financial muscle in the January transfer window. Apart from splashing out huge sums on signing fees, they also offered lucrative wages in their bid to lure talented players to England.
It has been revealed that no team spent more on wages than Manchester United last season.
This is now common knowledge as The Times has published the figures invested in wages by Premier League teams in 2021/22.
Manchester United wage bill: More than 430m euros in salaries
According to The Times, Manchester United‘s wage bill last season was set at 432.5 million euros.
They are followed by Liverpool (412.1m euros) and Manchester City (398.7m euros).
For their part, Tottenham Hotspur invested 235.3m euros in wages, followed by city rivals Arsenal with 232m euros.
According to The Times reporter Martyn Ziegler, Chelsea have yet to file their 2021/22 accounts. Their 2020/21 wage bill was set at 374.9m euros.
Liverpool’s wage bill increases by 75 percent
Back in 2017, the Reds invested 234.2m euros in salaries. However, just four years later, their wage bill increased by 75 percent to 412.1m euros in 2021/22.
