Portsmouth have revealed that club captain Hannah Haughton and forward Emily Pitman will miss the remainder of the season through injury.
Pompey announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.
It has been reported that goalkeeper Haughton has dislocated her shoulder while teammate Pitman has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury which will require surgery.
Haughton has made three appearances for Portsmouth in the Barclays Women’s Championship this season. On-loan Manchester City keeper Eve Annets is set to retain the number one jersey whilst the player is sidelined. Young forward Pitman featured for Pompey on six occasions in all competitions before sustaining her injury.
Portsmouth’s double injury blow comes off the back of a difficult start to the season. Jay Sadler’s side have found the step up from the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division to the Barclays Women’s Championship tough and they are still awaiting their first points of the season.
Portsmouth are without a game this weekend as a result of the odd number of clubs in the Barclays Women’s Championship. They will have extra time to prepare for what promises to be a huge game against Sheffield United in Havant on Sunday 10 November 2024.
