Manchester City‘s Premier League rivals are demanding for the Sky Blues to be relegated in the event they are found guilty of a breaching 115 Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
The Premier League released a statement on Monday to announce that following a four-year investigation into City‘s finances, they found the Sky Blues guilty of numerous FFP breaches over the course of nine years.
Meanwhile, the Sun has reported that Premier League clubs are demanding an exemplary punishment for Manchester City.
“If these charges are proven there must be proper punishment – and the only fitting one is for them to be relegated,” one club chief told the British publication.
“We’re talking about a decade of alleged abuses and want the Premier League to do the right thing.”
Manchester City’s breaches of financial rules
Irati Prat explains in MARCA that the ‘City Case’ is being studied by an independent commission that analyzes the financial figures of the Sky Blues since 2009.
The club are accused of not providing truthful information, as well as breaching UEFA regulations regarding Financial Fair Play and licensing and the Premier League rules regarding profit and sustainability.
Manchester City released a statement to express their surprise following the Premier League’s announcement on Monday.
“Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with,” the statement read.
“The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
