Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are among the clubs showing an interest in Sunderland wonderkid Chris Rigg as he looks set to become available.
Sources with a close understanding of Rigg’s situation have informed CaughtOffside that a long list of top clubs are on alert as the 17-year-old attacking midfielder could be available for around £25million in the summer transfer window.
Rigg is one of the biggest prospects in the country right now, and it’s not too surprising to see that the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd have looked closely at him.
“It ended BADLY with Wenger” – this nightmare Arsenal legend “had problems with EVERYONE”, his former teammate reveals!
CaughtOffside have also been told that Rigg can count Chelsea, Manchester City, Brighton, Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid as being among his potential suitors.
Although Sunderland have previously resisted approaches for their prized asset, it now looks like they are resigned to losing him and will be prepared to let him go for a big fee.
Chris Rigg transfer: Will top clubs invest £25m in this elite wonderkid?
£25m is a lot to pay for a relatively inexperienced teenager, but it could end up being a bargain in the long run if Rigg fulfils his enormous potential.
The England Under-18 international has already played 53 games for Sunderland’s first-team, scoring a total of seven goals over the last two seasons for the Championship club.
It was already obvious that Jude Bellingham was the real deal when he was doing similar things for Birmingham City at that age, so Premier League clubs won’t want to miss out again.
United could do particularly well to build their new-look squad around talents like this, as they’ve so often over-spent on ageing superstars in the past and it’s come back to haunt them.
Still, Rigg might find somewhere like Arsenal or Liverpool more tempting right now, as both of those clubs look a lot closer to winning major trophies than the Red Devils.
