RKC Waalwijk welcome Fortuna Sittard to the Mandemakers Stadion on Friday night hoping to return to winning ways. Prior to their recent defeat to FC Twente the side had won three games in a row and given themselves a huge boost in the battle to avoid the drop. They welcome a Sittard side that, over the past five games, the least in form side in the Eredivisie. Danny Buijs’ men have lost four of their previous five games, with their only point coming from a 2-2 draw with Heerenveen at the start of February.
Six games without a win, Buijs is coming under pressure to turn things around and that will start with the trip to face Waalwijk. Last time out it was the visitors that won, with the side running out 3-2 winners over Waalwijk. Fortuna Sittard are currently six points ahead of Sparta Rotterdam, the side occupying the relegation play-off spot. However, while there are a number of teams between the two sides, Buijs’ sides recent form is a cause for concern.
Waalwijk could put huge pressure on Sparta with a win on Friday night. They would draw level on points, and could have a better goal difference than the side. Sparta welcome Willem II on Sunday and could be under huge pressure should the side below them win. With AZ and PSV to come, Waalwijk will be eyeing this Friday night encounter as a key chance to claw back some of the gap on the sides above them.
Despite their overall struggles, the side have scored more goals (31) than their opponents (29). However, Waalwijk have conceded more goals (47) than Fortuna Sittard (41). Oskar Zawada, who turned down moves abroad in January, leads Waalwijk with nine goals, while Kristoffer Peterson leads Fortuna Sittard with six.
