In December 2022, King Charles and Queen Camilla visited Wrexham as part of the club’s incredible media PR drive after being purchased by Hollywood stars, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
After managing to purchase the Welsh club, Reynolds and McElhenney have turned their fortunes around, getting promotion up to League Two, returning to the English Football League for the first time in years.
Ahead of the royal visit to the club in December, both owners are understood to have undergone a ‘monarchy boot camp’ to prepare for the King’s visit.
“So, the King of England called,” Reynolds declared in a promotional video for Welcome to Wrexham.
“We went to monarchy boot camp. It’s like the military except your pinky’s always up.”
Wrexham returned to winning ways on Saturday
Whilst the international break has impacted the Premier League, League Two carried on as normal, with Wrexham taking on Doncaster in a home match.
With Steven Fletcher having signed for the Welsh club starting from the bench, the hosts were able to secure a 2-1 victory with goals from Luke Young and Elliot Lee.
Lee’s winning goal actually came in the 88th minute, taking their record for the season to three wins, three draws and just one solitary defeat.
The club are in their first season in League Two and currently sit in seventh place after seven matches, although their defensive record is somewhat alarming.
Despite having a goal difference of +2, they have conceded 15 goals already which is the second highest in the division behind 23rd place Sutton United.
