Manchester United have suffered a major setback in the first week of January transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Matheus Cunha is ‘set to sign’ a new deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Cunha and Wolves have verbally agreed on the new contract to extend the stay with improved salary.
Man United have been heavily linked with a transfer move for the Brazilian star.
However, it looks like the Red Devils have to look elsewhere now to bolster their attack.
Manager Ruben Amorim fields his team in a 3-4-2-1 formation.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are traditional wingers and have struggled to impress the new head coach.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have also disappointed with their showings up-front.
Cunha would have been an excellent addition to United.
He has thrived as a left number 10 in a similar playing style.
He has been in ‘irresistible form’, bagging ten goals and four assists in 19 league appearances this season.
Cunha scored directly from the corner against United last month.
He also earned an assist for the second Wolves goal to ensure a big victory for his side.
Cunha would have brought creativity and high intensity to the Red Devils.
United are enduring a terrible 2024/25 season.
They are languishing in the 14th spot on the league table.
They have to sign atleast a couple of players to help Amorim come out of the current mess.
A creative number 10 and a dynamic wing-back will be at the top of their priority list to turn things around.
