Liverpool’s season has so far been almost flawless under new head coach Arne Slot, and their European campaign has certainly been that. The Reds have currently won all six games in the UEFA Champions League, conceding just one goal, which came three minutes into the first game at AC Milan.
As well as beating the Serie A giants, that run also includes victories over Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.
Tuesday night sees Liverpool take on LOSC Lille, which could be an opportunity for Slot to rotate his side as their Premier League title pursuit continues to ramp up. With that being said, let’s take a look at our predicted lineup…
Two Changes at the Back
Alisson Becker will remain in goal for this one after an impressive performance in the Reds’ victory at Brentford.
Kostas Tsimikas will remain at left-back too, with Andy Robertson being rested once again before likely returning for Saturday’s clash with Ipswich Town. On the opposite side, Conor Bradley could return to the side in place of Trent Alexander-Arnold who has started against Accrington Stanley, Nottingham Forest and Brentford, all in the past 10 days.
Virgil Van Dijk will captain the side from the heart of the defence, but will be partnered by Jarell Quansah on this occasion. Ibou Konate will be given some much-needed recovery time as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.
Verdict: Alisson, Bradley, Quansah, Van Dijk (C), Tsimikas
Crucial Adjustments in Midfield
I see this game as a huge opportunity to two of the three key midfielders. Therefore, I think Curtis Jones will come into the side and will partner Alexis Mac Allister at the base of the midfield – meaning Ryan Gravenberch will get a much-needed rest ahead of the weekend’s Premier League action.
Dominik Szoboszlai is also expected to be rested in this one and surely Harvey Elliott is in line to finally get his chance to showcase his abilities in the ten role.
Verdict: Mac Allister, Jones, Elliott
Darwin Nunez’s Huge Opportunity
After his heroics against Brentford, Darwin Nunez is in line for a huge opportunity in the starting lineup. Hopefully the Uruguayan can take that momentum into Tuesday’s game and really reignite his season.
Mohamed Salah will start on the right-wing, whilst Luis Diaz will move out onto the opposite flank in place of Cody Gakpo, with the Dutchman receiving a well-earned rest.
Federico Chiesa will likely receive a fair chunk of minutes after also impressing off the bench at the weekend, but this game has perhaps come too soon for a surprise start. Diogo Jota will miss this game through injury.
Verdict: Salah, Nunez, Diaz
Starting XI: Alisson, Bradley, Quansah, Van Dijk (C), Tsimikas, Mac Allister, Jones, Elliott, Salah, Nunez, Diaz
Bench: Kelleher, Jaros, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Robertson, Endo, Morton, McConnell Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Chiesa
