Real Mallorca has officially announced that current US basketball coach and NBA Golden State Warriors coach, Steve Kerr, has joined the Balearic club’s shareholders.
The news comes after the restructuring carried out on July 1 and led by the president and majority shareholder, Andy Kohlberg.
As a result, a big name in the world of basketball has joined the ambitious project of the Vermellon club.
“I am a friend of Andy Kohlberg and we were together this summer. He told me that there has been a change in ownership and offered me the option of being part of the new investment group. I am very motivated, I was in Mallorca last summer watching a game, supporting the team and becoming just another fan. It’s a very exciting opportunity,” said Kerr.
Andy Kohlberg, the club’s biggest shareholder and chairman following the departure of Robert Sarver a month and a half ago, is delighted that Kerr is joining the club: “It’s a big step forward, when he came in a year ago and spoke to the players he had a big impact and I loved hearing the messages of the importance of the team and the involvement of everyone, starters and reserves, to be prepared. They loved it and Steve enjoyed it.”
Looking back on his visit to Mallorca last year, Kerr says becoming one of club’s shareholders has given him renewed motivation: “I became a Real Mallorca fan last year, and now, being involved in the club, I will be watching all the La Liga games. It’s quite motivating and not just from a shareholder point of view but with everything that comes with putting your heart and being part of the club and that’s exciting.”
