LaLiga president Javier Tebas has once again criticized his Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) counterpart Luis Rubiales, this time speaking out on Wednesday about his behavior following the end of the Women’s World Cup final.
Tebas took to social media to blast Rubiales‘ actions after Spain won the Women’s World Cup, actions which included touching his genitals in the VIP box, kissing Jenni Hermoso during the medal ceremony and carrying Athenea del Castillo.
“It’s wrong to pressure the national team players and focus on them or their reactions,” Tebas stated on Twitter, referring to the explanations given by the RFEF president about the kiss with Jenni Hermoso, which he claimed was a mutual and consensual act.
“They are not to blame for the image of Spain portrayed by Rubiales.”
Tebas also believes that the issue has taken a turn, where different political parties have seen an opportunity and are using it for their interests.
However, the LaLiga president indicated that this should not cloud or shift the focus away from what’s important to him, which is Rubiales‘ unacceptable behavior on the day Spain lifted the Women’s World Cup.
“No opportunism or political hypocrisy justifies that Spain’s image has been represented by a lunatic touching his genitals, forcing kisses, treating players like sacks, and inappropriately touching the Queen at such an important moment,” Tebas added.
“This is not a matter of left or right. Rubiales not only undermined Jenni‘s dignity with his actions but also that of Spain.”
