Speaking to T-Online, Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß spoke about the club potentially trying to sign Florian Wirtz.
It is well known that Wirtz is Bayern’s dream signing. However, the 21-year-old is nearing a contract extension with Bayer Leverkusen and a signing of the Köln native would likely cost more than €125m, which is money Bayern could use to fund other positions. On Wirtz, Hoeneß said:
“He’s certainly a player we should not lose sight of. If I could have a dream, then I would say that Florian Wirtz has to go to FC Bayern. But that is just my personal opinion.”
In a separate interview with kicker, Hoeneß was asked if he could make a one-signing for Bayern’s 125th anniversary the former Bayern director said:
“If I had freedom without limits, then I’d wish Florian Wirtz at FC Bayern”
When asked to elaborate, Hoeneß said:
“Because he’d fit in very well with us and with Musiala”
This saga around Wirtz and Bayern will likely persist until Wirtz does sign a contract extension at Leverkusen. After that, there may be a brief reprieve before the rumours circulate once again. This rumours will likely grow even stronger if Wirtz and Jamal Musiala achieve something with the national team.
It would not be surprising if a rumour about Wirtz and Bayern drops before Leverkusen hosts the Rekordmeister in just under two weeks at the BayArena, in what is an important game in the title race.
