Rodri Hernandez is a typically calm player, but today, in the 27th minute of the second half against Nottingham Forest, he was sent off as a result of an altercation with Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, whom he grabbed by the throat.
The English midfielder player went down quickly, two seconds after being grabbed… and appearing as if he had been shot from the stands.
There were two strange things about this particular incident. Firstly, Rodri losing his temper, which almost never happens, and the fact that it was so soon after coming out of the dressing room.
The game was already 2-0 in favor of City, a score which was enough for Manchester City to win their six successive Premier League game this season.
With this red card, Rodri has earned a three-match ban. It will start against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup and then conclude with Premier League games against Wolves and Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
This absence will represent a serious blow for Pep Guardiola, who has grown to rely on the former Atletico Madrid midfielder.
