There is never a shortage of big names or familiar faces in the crowd at the Australian Open, with billionaire Bill Gates spotted courtside for the women’s and men’s singles semi-finals.
Gates was picked up on Nine‘s coverage enjoying the contest while setting tongues wagging about how much his enviable seats cost.

It is believed Gates will be in attendance throughout the weekend to take in as much of the action at the Australian Open as possible.

However, Gates is situated in an exclusive on-court area within Rod Laver Arena that comes with a hefty price tag. Tickets for the upcoming men’s final in those seats have been priced at $27,500.

Why is Bill Gates in Australia?
The billionaire Microsoft founder has travelled to Australia to meet with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for the first time.
Gates is in the country with representatives from his Breakthrough Energy company, which is centred on developing innovations in sustainable energy and technology in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
He is also believed to have discussed matters relating to medical issues on behalf of his Gates Foundation.
“The preparedness for the next pandemic is still a discussion that hasn’t been figured out,” he said.
“Both the Foundation and Breakthrough Energy are excited about the things we can do together.”
