John Cena is preparing for his farewell tour in WWE, which will kick off on the RAW premiere on Netflix on January 6. On Thursday, reports surfaced about the possibility of a match against Logan Paul at WrestleMania 41.
However, WWE is not very fond of this idea, as they want to follow a different creative path for the Cenation Leader’s final WrestleMania. With that in mind, we examine three reasons why it would be a bad idea for this match to take place at Mania.
#3. WWE should keep it for another Premium Live Event
Logan Paul has expressed the desire to battle John Cena during the latter’s retirement tour. This would be a dream match for the former United States Champion, but WWE is hesitant that WrestleMania 41 is the place to be.
Given that Logan Paul is not a big-time player in WWE yet, the creative team could keep this match for another Premium Live Event, but not the major ones.
Such examples would be Backlash, King and Queen of The Ring, or even Bad Blood. As both superstars have great mic skills and could build up their feud perfectly, it would also bring more hype to whichever Premium Live Event the match takes place.
#2. It would make sense only if Logan Paul was the World Heavyweight Champion
This Logan Paul vs John Cena match would make sense only if the former was the World Heavyweight Champion, so the Cenation Leader would be able to make history should he dethrone him.
To do so, Logan Paul has to defeat Gunther and become the new World Heavyweight Champion. He shared this goal last week during the RAW on Netflix Kickoff Event, with Gunther responding and making it clear that he would dominate the former US Champion in a title match.
Given this, if WWE doesn’t plan to go that route, a John Cena vs. Logan Paul match at WrestleMania 41 would make no sense.
#1. John Cena needs to face a big-time opponent in his final WrestleMania
John Cena’s farewell tour will include stops on RAW, SmackDown, and likely all Premium Live Events in 2025. WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas will be the last time we will see the Cenation Leader compete at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
So, the right thing for WWE would be to have the 16-time World Champion compete against another megastar in his final appearance at ‘Mania. Logan Paul is not a top star yet.
Instead, Cena could go up against CM Punk in his final WrestleMania match, re-igniting their feud from the summer of 2011. He could also face Roman Reigns, who succeeded him as the face of WWE.
Cody Rhodes is another likely opponent, with the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line. Cena and Rhodes are the top two babyfaces, and a match at ‘Mania would make sense.
The biggest opponent for the 16-time World Champion would be The Rock, given what the two WWE legends have achieved in their respective careers and the fact that The Final Boss will reportedly be back in WWE next month for another run.
