CM Punk and Seth Rollins ended the year with a bang after going back and forth on this week’s WWE RAW before their long-awaited match during the brand’s Netflix premiere. Although they didn’t get physical, the words they let go were more than enough to hit hard.

CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins is the match many wanted to see after the former returned to the Stamford-based promotion in 2023. Both men publicly criticized each other before The Best in the World even returned, and it was something they continued doing when he returned. After their supposed WrestleMania XL match was canceled due to Punk’s injury, they will finally clash on WWE RAW’s Netflix premiere next week. However, they ensured fans would tune in after the closing segment they had on this week’s Monday show.

#5. CM Punk referenced Vince McMahon several times

At the beginning of the segment, Seth stated that he will remain active on television after RAW whether he wins or loses, which he can’t say the same for Punk. Rollins added that 10 years ago, Punk “took his ball and went home” when things didn’t go his way, which infuriated Best in the World.

Punk asked Seth which “Paragod of good virtue,” said those lines, knowing that the latter couldn’t answer directly as it was Vince McMahon who said it in 2002 when Stone Cold Steve Austin walked out from the company.

Later in the segment, Punk continued his Vince McMahon reference by telling his opponent that he liked WWE, but didn’t like the person in charge at the time, but the one in charge liked Rollins a lot.

#4. CM Punk took a shot at Seth Rollins’ injury

Seth unfortunately sustained a couple of injuries last year, which caused him to miss several on-screen appearances. He started the year by tearing his MCL but chose to continue wrestling limitedly for WrestleMania season. Later on, he also injured his lower back.

Rollins’ being injury-prone was also something that The Best in the World pointed out during their exchange on WWE RAW. The latter pointed out how Seth’s pride took a hit in the last 10 months due to it.

It’s no secret that while Punk was in AEW, he took several shots and references to WWE and its superstars. Now that he’s back in the Stamford-based promotion, Seth ensures his opponent wouldn’t just easily forget about it.

During this week’s segment, Seth said that after Punk joined the competition where he criticized and insulted WWE and its stars, he returned when it no longer worked out for him.

After Seth made the comments about Punk taking the ball home, the latter asked if Becky Lynch, Rollins’ real-life wife and former superstar, also took her ball home after not renewing her contract in June of last year.

The Man was last seen on television in May in an episode of WWE RAW where she failed to reclaim the Women’s World Championship from Liv Morgan. However, it should be noted that her return might occur anytime now after being featured on the WWE RAW Netflix commercial.

After Punk asked about Becky’s whereabouts, Seth Rollins replied that she was taking care of children, which was something that The Voice of the Voiceless wouldn’t know since he didn’t have one. For those wondering, Punk has been married to former superstar AJ Lee since 2014.
