After weeks of intense promotion, the first Monday Night RAW show on Netflix went down and was expectedly eventful. During the post-show review, Vince Russo highlighted a booking mistake and missed opportunity involving The Rock.
The first promo of the night came from The Rock himself as he seemingly ditched The Final Boss persona to deliver a very corporate message. The segment was followed by Roman Reigns’ match against Solo Sikoa for the Ula Fala, which saw Kevin Owens make an unlikely interference.
KO stunned Roman Reigns, which led to Cody Rhodes coming out to brawl with his on-screen rival. WWE utilized Roman vs. Solo to advance Rhodes’ issues with Owens but Vince Russo felt it was all a creative mistake.
While speaking on Sporstskeeda Wrestling’s Legion of RAW, Russo said that Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens should have been nowhere near Roman Reigns’ match against Solo Sikoa.
Vince Russo would have instead had Kevin Owens, who has won nine championships in WWE, attack The Rock during the latter’s segment, which would have been the cue for Cody Rhodes to hit the ring.
Russo laid out the alternate angle, which he believed was better:
“I think Owens was too much. I know you wanted to do something with Cody and Owens, I don’t think they belong there. What I would have done is, when Rock was putting over Cody, I would have had Owens attack him from the crowd. It wasn’t the right spot where you’d put both those guys.” [From 59:30 onwards]
The Rock’s demeanor and sudden respect for Cody Rhodes during his promo might have been indications that he will not wrestle at WrestleMania but that could all change in the coming weeks.
